Business Spotlight: Celtic Crossroads – A Bit of Celtic Soul on Bainbridge Island
One of the most rewarding parts of my work as a real estate agent is getting to know the people behind the small businesses that make Bainbridge Island such a vibrant, welcoming community. This week, I stopped into Celtic Crossroads on Winslow Way — a beloved shop filled with Celtic goods, heritage, and heart — and had a wonderful conversation with one of the owners.
Here’s a look at our chat:
🍀 Q: What inspired you to start Celtic Crossroads?
A: “We didn’t actually start the business — my family purchased it from a Scotsman who simply wanted access to his favorite tea. To import that particular Scottish blend, he had to become a reseller. Once he realized others loved the products too, he started bringing in more items. About two years later, my family, who were all educators, decided to buy the business and run it together. That was 17 years ago, and we’ve been building on his idea ever since.”

☘️ Q: What’s the story behind the name “Celtic Crossroads”?
A: “It’s a nod to our heritage — Irish, Scottish, and Cornish — and the seven Celtic nations: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, Galicia, and the Isle of Man. The word ‘Celtic’ itself is often pronounced differently here in the U.S. versus in Europe, but for us, it represents a deep cultural connection and a shared history.”
🏝️ Q: What’s one Bainbridge Island tradition you love?
A: “Halloween! The whole community comes out, and it’s a blast seeing both kids and adults in costume. We hand out all kinds of candy — lollipops, taffy, and even sweets imported from Europe — and every year we run out. Last year we estimated over 3,000 trick-or-treaters, and this year it’s on a Friday, so we’re planning for even more.”

🌳 Q: What do you recommend to visitors who are exploring Bainbridge for the first time?
A: “Honestly, I always tell people to slow down and absorb how mellow and peaceful the island is. Take a walk along the waterfront, sit on the dock, and enjoy the views. Visit the troll sculpture and walk through the nearby park. If you’re hungry, try Hitchcock Café or Madison Diner — they’re local favorites. And if you have a car, explore farther out to places like Battle Point Park or the observatory at the Battle Point Astronomical Association.”

🪄 Q: What’s next for Celtic Crossroads?
A: “We’re always looking for ways to bring people together. We recently launched a ‘Wine & Whiskey Wednesday’ event, featuring local wines and a cozy community atmosphere. We’re also expanding our product offerings and doing more custom orders so people can get exactly what they’re looking for.”
