Bainbridge Island Land Trust

🌿 Spotlight on the Bainbridge Island Land Trust

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kate Kelly and Cullen Brady of the Bainbridge Island Land Trust (BILT)—two people deeply committed to keeping Bainbridge wild, healthy, and beautiful.

When I asked them about the heart of their work, they told me:

“The Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s mission is to conserve and steward the diverse natural environments of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all.”

From forests to shorelines, wetlands to meadows, BILT is ensuring that future generations will experience the same natural beauty that makes this island so special today.

But it’s not just about the mission—it’s also about the places that sometimes fly under the radar. So, I asked Kate and Cullen to share their “hidden gems” of Bainbridge:

🌊 Kate Kelly’s pick: Springbrook Creek Preserve — a peaceful retreat that many islanders don’t even realize exists.

🐿️ Cullen Brady’s pick: Flying squirrels at Gazzam Lake — a rare and magical wildlife sighting if you’re lucky enough to catch it!

Their answers were a reminder that Bainbridge still holds surprises for all of us—whether you’ve lived here your whole life or are discovering it for the first time.

📸 I was able to capture some photos of Kate and Cullen during our chat, and I’ll be sharing those alongside this post.

Next time you’re out exploring Bainbridge, consider venturing beyond the familiar trails. And if you’d like to support the conservation work that makes these experiences possible, check out the Bainbridge Island Land Trust.
